I am super excited to finally be able to bring you guys the Ultimate Barn Plans Package!  Finally ALL
of our Barn Plans in one place for you to download!
Our Heritage is slowly dying with these old barns.
Old barns remind us of our great farming heritage. We all have wonderful memories of old barns.

Do you have memories of playing in an old barn as a child?  Did you spend hot summer days stacking hay all the way up to the top of that grand old cathedral?  Have you ever just gazed at one of those old beauties and imagined all the great stories it could tell?

Life was so much simpler, as you watched the sunset in the shade of that big Gambrel barn. It was your reward for a hard day’s work.

Isn’t that what the American Dream is all about?  You work hard for your dreams, shouldn't you have time to enjoy them? How can you relive those memories?

Wouldn’t Building a great barn like that bring back fond memories?
What's Holding you back?
Do you feel overwhelmed at the prospect of building such a complex, structure?   Do you feel like you don't know where to start?   Do you think you need specialized skills, in ancient timber frame joinery techniques to accomplish your dream?
If you stay with me to the end, you are going to discover, how you can build a magnificent Traditional Post and Beam Barn like this one.
Without learning ancient complicated mortise and tenon joinery techniques, and without being confused about where to start.
Hi, My name is Aaron Esch,

A few years ago, I was just like that. I didn't know where to start. As a matter of fact the first time I tried to build a Barn like this I failed.

I started the only way I knew how, the only way anyone around me knew how. I stuck some treated poles in the ground and started building. I didn't have a plan, and I didn't have any idea, what I was doing.

Needless to say, I didn't get much past the posts. I had a few 2x4's nailed to the side of my pole Barn, but that is about it. Soon life changed and I needed to build a house because I had a Baby on the way!

I didn't have time to learn the complexities of Timber Framing, so I did what everyone else did, and threw up a stick built house. Don't get me wrong, stick built homes are great, and they serve their purpose. But what I really wanted, what I dreamed of building was a good old fashioned barn.

That dream had started when I was a kid. I spent long hours in the hot summer sun putting hay up in these grand old barns with their hand notched mortises, rough cut boards, and ax hewn beams.
I pictured myself building one of my very own, lifting beams into place and driving wooden pegs through the beams to secure a tight mortise and tenon joint.

What about you?

Have you ever admired an old Gambrel barn and wished you could have one of your own? Would you like to build a traditional barn but don't know where to begin?

Sometimes dreams are easier to dream than they are to realize. Sometimes, life gets in the way and we realize we will never have the time to learn what it takes to live that dream.

Even for a savvy modern craftsman, a traditional post and beam barn can be a challenge. All those mortise and tenon joints, hand cut with precision, and craftsmanship that comes from years learning from a master builder. Building like this is certainly worth the effort, but who has time to learn all that?
I almost gave up hope.
Then I discovered something that I couldn't quite believe!

I discovered a way to build barns just like the old ones, with the same character and charm. The same nostalgic look and feel, without learning all of those time consuming skills, and without having to buy an expensive kit.
It was a struggle at first, like I said, I had no idea where to start. So I bought books on Timber Framing, and old building techniques. I studied old barns and even dismantled a few, during my days as a barn wood re-claimer.
I spoke with old timers who had helped build some of the last of the great old barns. I even joined preservation networks to learn how the old barns went together. I started to become known as someone who had a good understanding of how the old barns went together.
Then one day I got a call from a farmer who wanted to build a new barn...
He told me he wanted a new barn just like the old ones. He wanted a place where his customers could buy tickets for his corn maze, where they could purchase various farm items. He wanted it to be authentic, he wanted it to look like it could have been built 150 years ago.
He asked me if I could put together a design and package of materials for a barn like that. By that time, I was confident that I could, so I said yes.
I got to work right away and sketched out a basic design, I had a designer put it into plan format, and then I ordered the timbers, and boards, and I had a local fabrication shop make the steel joinery plates we would use in place of the classic mortise and tenon joints.
When all was said and done we ended up with this.
It was a brilliant success! I now had the tools and knowledge to bring that childhood dream to reality!
It was then that I realized... This wasn't as hard as I thought! As long as you have a great plan, the right tools, and a few modern joinery tricks, anyone can build a magnificent post and beam barn!

After this first success people started coming to me to help them with their dreams. I didn't realize it before but these great barns can be so much more than just barns. I helped design wedding barns, art studios, a personal antique car museum, a sugar shack and many others!
It felt really good to help people realize their dreams...

That is why I decided to open up my library of plans, and share these ideas, techniques and secrets that I have discovered along the way to help others do what only a few have done.
It took months of designing and refining these designs to come up with these plans. And cost me hours of effort everyday, but it was totally worth it!
Following these Barn Plans makes building a Post and Beam barn so much easier! There is no guess work involved, every step has been thought out and designed to make it easy for you, and even easier on your pocket book.

What used to take skilled craftsman months of hard labor, can now be done in a matter of a few weekends with the help of a couple buddies.

Here is Andy's Story.....
A Letter from one of our
Barn Plan Customers.
Aaron,
Thanks. Here's the short version of how I decided to build this barn.
I found Barngeek web site in the midst of my research to find "the barn" . After retiring in December 2013 I ordered plans for the 30 x 40 gable barn. It took me a while to really commit to getting started as I continued to toy with other designs. Finally, I decided, "what the heck, I can do this." So, I prepped the rough site that I had originally built with a bulldozer in 2011. I leveled and smoothed the fill dirt with my tractor in July and augured out pier supports. By early August I was ready for concrete and we poured the slab on August 7th.
In the mean while I had shopped for a source of timbers and found a small sawmill in East Texas using Craigslist. I hired a guy to haul it to my ranch and had most of the bent lumber in place by early September. I built the bents pretty much alone during October and November. Then, after lots of hand wringing I decided to seek "professional help" for standing up the bents and putting on the roof. I figured the solo approach clearly was not an option and I doubted that I had enough skilled friends who happened to have a week or so free to help me stand things up. That was the best decision I have made on this project so far. The crew is decking the roof today and it should be in the dry by tonight.
Here are some pictures.

It has been a great project and I am very pleased with my barn. Thanks for designing this plan. -- Andy

What does the Ultimate Barn
Plans Package cost?
What Does All This Cost?
Normally a set of professionally drawn set of plans like these would cost thousands of dollars. Call any Timber Frame designer and ask for a quote, you will find that prices range anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000 for each plan! Or even more depending on the size and detail of the barn.  As a matter of fact the very plans for sale on this page originally cost on average $2,500 each.  That means the original value of these plans were over $30,000!  As you can see these plans will only cost you a mere fraction of the original cost.
How can we offer these plans at such a low price?
The secret is technology. You see, in the old days plans were drawn up on paper by hand and they were only good for one project. Now, with computer aided drafting that same set of plans can be saved, stored digitally, and be used over and over again for multiple people doing multiple projects.

Here is what some of our customers have said about us.....

Rich Hines

We highly recommend Michigan Heritage Barns. Our project was a bit unusual - a sugar shack for the production of maple syrup. Aaron carefully listened to our needs for barn design and developed a solution that was both effective and affordable.

Brad Moore

Aaron provided a well engineered Timber Frame Barn Kit. During the design process he worked with me to custom design exactly what I needed. The materials were all delivered to my site in a timely manner. Any small issues that came up, where quickly dealt with by Aaron himself. I would highly recommend anyone who is looking to build an out-building that truly complements your home, to contact Aaron to discuss the advantages of Timber Framing!

Bill Stevens

I modified the roofline on the gable plans we purchased to create a salt box. Laid out the first bent today!

Andy Yates

It has been a great project and I am very pleased with my barn. Thanks for designing this plan. -- Andy
